Autism Acceptance Month is the month where we advocate for acceptance of the Autistic community rather than the “awareness” that Auti$m $peaks promotes. During this month, people are encouraged to increase their knowledge about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As part of the Autistic community, we are working hard to take back this month of “awareness” and turn it into “acceptance” because we are aware of what Autism is and now it’s time to accept it and promote the change we want to see in the world.
#RedInstead and #lightitupgold (in the UK) are two hashtags that promote the acceptance of Autism.
30 Days of Autism also takes place during Autism Acceptance Month every year and for those with Autism who would like to participate are encouraged to do so if they want. This also helps promote acceptance during the month. The prompts for the previous years can be accessed here.
